Current research: Joe is interested in the politics of citizenship and how internal/external borders emerge and are governed in (post)colonial states such as the UK. His latest project examines how the ‘family’ became a site of border governance and looks at the transnational history of regulating ‘migrant families’ in both the UK and US. Joe’s work lies at the cross-section of IR, political sociology and historiography.
